Poundbury Cancer Institute
Poundbury Cancer Institute has been established in order to improve outcomes for cancer patients by supporting the delivery of the most effective treatment for each individual patient – Personalised Medicine.
Poundbury Cancer Institute evolved from pioneering work started in 2012 in the Department of Histopathology at Dorset County Hospital in partnership with Roche Tissue Diagnostics and UK NEQAS-IHC&ISH.
A major emphasis was on providing local patients with cancer diagnostic tests not yet available nationally or for which there were lengthy delays.
The Institute has been set up by local NHS staff with a combination of private investment, commercial funding and charitable donations.

Cancer Testing:
The establishment of Poundbury Cancer Institute will benefit local patients by providing timely access to a large array of high quality cancer tests. We hope to provide many of these tests for free through the development of the Poundbury Cancer Institute Charitable Trust. Poundbury Cancer Institute (PCI) has evolved from the pioneering work started in 2012 in the Department of Histopathology at Dorset County Hospital. |
Diagnostic Support:
PCI can offer complete support to the healthcare system via histology and clinical diagnostics, from cut-up to reporting. The support offered can be on a one-off basis or can be a scalable contract tailored to specific needs. The full range of histology, from wet tissue cut-up, tissue processing, section cutting and staining, through to reporting of pre-prepared slides is available. A range of IHC and molecular testing is also available. See Diagnostic Support for more details. CADQAS CIC – Cancer Diagnostic Quality Assurance Services – an independent, not-for-profit community interest company which works with the pharmaceutical & analytical industry to implement new cancer tests across the UK is based in PCI.

Education:
Poundbury Cancer Institute has a tailor-made educational programme designed to train medical and scientific staff in the use and interpretation of these new tests in order to improve UK laboratory practice. The unique combination of activities available at Poundbury Cancer Institute will assist with the design and delivery of personalised medicine across the UK. Committment to Modern Slavery Act 2015
Poundbury Cancer Institute (PCI) turnover is below £36million. Therefore according to section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, the concern is not obliged to provide an annual statement accordingly. However, PCI takes a zero tolerance approach to slavery and human trafficking, and are resolute to identify and eliminate this within our business. Our HR Personnel Policy Manual (ref: PHR1 v2.2) also acknowledges section 54 of Act 2015. |
